Camille Goutal: Scent scion

-

MANILA, Philippines - Born in Paris, Camille Goutal was destined for a life in fragrance. Due to her mother’s passion for scent, Camille was surrounded by myriad bouquets from a very young age; her keen sense of smell developed naturally over the years.

As the daughter of a fragrance pioneer, Camille did not immediately follow her mother into the business. After receiving her “A level” in Classic Literature, Camille studied at the Louvre Museum School, the Cluet Art and Design School and the Effet School of Photography. After her formal education, Camille assisted several well-known fashion photographers, shooting editorial campaigns for top international fashion magazines. In addition, she photographed the designer collections during numerous seasons of Paris Fashion Week and the exclusive parties in and around the city that inevitably follow the shows.

Camille joined Annick Goutal Parfums as a perfumer in 1999 after her mother’s passing that same year. Not simply following in her mother’s footsteps, Camille has further developed the line by creating fragrances that reflect her own distinct personality. With her formative years spent around the enchanted scents and potions, some of which were named in her honor, as well as her long-standing collaboration with the brand on press and advertising visuals, Camille was able to offer a unique insight into the brand as a member of the company’s Creative Committee.

Since her formal introduction at Aromatique Majeur, the company founded by her mother and Isabelle Doyen in 1992 to create fragrances using only rare and natural essences, Camille has created 11 new scents with Isabelle Doyen. As her fragrance partner, friend and “second nose,” Isabelle collaborated with Camille on Les Nuits d’ Hadrien, a more sensual version of her mother’s most famous perfume, Eau d’Hadrien. Since 2001, Camille’s contributions have been seven limited-edition Soliflore (single flower fragrance) collections including, Le Muguet, La Violette, Le Chèvrefeuille, Des Lys, Néroli, Le Jasmin and Vanille Exquise, as well as the launches of Quel Amour! in 2002 and her first masculine scent, Duel, followed by Les Nuits d’Hadrien in 2003. Most recently for spring 2005, Camille and Isabelle launched Mandragore, a unisex fragrance and the first scent to boast the mystical mandrake root as an ingredient. With an enduring dedication to perfumes made exclusively with pure and noble ingredients, Camille and Isabelle foster an intense and intimate emotional connection between the scent and its wearer.

Much like her mother, inspiration comes naturally to Camille; she finds it in absolutely everything from her favorite time of the evening in Paris to walks on the beach near her vacation home on the island of Ré with her daughters, Mila and Maïa. A brand with romantic roots, each scent for Camille is another chapter in the true love story of Annick Goutal Parfums. With a discerning nose and an innate sense of style, Camille Goutal continues to carry on the traditions first implemented by her mother over 20 years ago.
