Star, NBS reveal winners of My Favorite Book contest
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine STAR, National Book Store and Globe Telecom will award the 2010 winners of My Favorite Book contest on March 17, Thursday, at NBS in Rockwell Power Plant Mall at 11 a.m.
The winners were chosen from the weekly entries published in the STAR every Sunday in 2010. For the first time in the contest’s 10-year run, all eight winners are women.
The grand prize winner is Sandra Ebrada, who wrote about Edgar Allan Poe; her prizes are P50,000 (half cash, half NBS gift certificates) and a Globe Handyphone. Second prize is Giselle Jose, who wrote about The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky; her prizes are P30,000 (cash and NBS GCs) and a Globe Handyphone. Third prize is Zarri Juevi, who wrote about The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera; her prizes are P20,000 (cash and NBC GCs) and a Globe Handyphone.
Five honorable-mention winners were also chosen and their prizes are P10,000 (cash and GCs) and a Globe Handyphone each. They are Sonia Sygaco, who wrote about The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion; Mary Ann Tamayo, The Great Malayan by Carlos Quirino; Sofia Benares, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; Elvie Gonzalez, Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney; and Katrina Gaw, Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.
