Score limited-edition Cola-Cola World Cup glasses at McDonald's
MANILA, Philippines - Once every four years, football fans around the world come together to celebrate the world’s largest sporting event — the FIFA World Cup. The tournament brings together the world’s finest football stars to compete for the coveted trophy.
This year, Cola-Cola and McDonald’s have once again teamed up to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the Philippines with a limited edition Cola-Cola Contour Glass series. Just add P25 to any McDonald’s value meal with Coca-Cola beverages and you’ll get one glass embossed with the official 2010 FIFA World Cup football figures. Each glass features a different football pose: the bicycle kick, header, kick, save, volley and strike. Promo runs until July 14.
This year’s contour glass craze has dominated 19 nations including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Macau, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia and Pacific Island markets.
“It is so exciting to be associated with events like the FIFA World Cup as it only happens every four years. The 2010 FIFA World Cup Coca-Cola Glass will come in handy to a lot of people,” says Andrew Hipsley, VP for marketing, McDonald’s Asia Pacific.
McDonald’s supports football at the grassroots level in many Asia Pacific markets and has served as an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup since the United States tournament in 1994, while Coca-Cola has been one of the longest-standing corporate partners of FIFA and an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup since 1978. Coca-Cola has been present in the stadiums where the hardcore action happens since 1950.
“The Coca-Cola Contour Glass is iconic and very popular with consumers as a collector’s item. We hope consumers feel the fizz of the tournament and enjoy themselves even more through this promotion with McDonald’s,” enthuses John Hackett, customer and commercial director, Coca-Cola Pacific Group Marketing.
