Giving Noynoy a makeover

Of course, Noynoy Aquino doesn’t need a makeover. The people love him precisely because of the way he is now—simple, unassuming, totally not a fame seeker, totally not seeking the limelight. In fact, we may have seen more of Noynoy in the past two months during his mother’s death than in the past six years! Despite his family’s stature, none of us even knew he even had a girlfriend. And what more of the realization that he and Korina Sanchez were an item in the past?

Simply put, if Kris is exactly like Ninoy, then Noynoy seems to be more like Cory. Cory who didn’t have any ambitions whatsoever of stepping into the presidency. But when push comes to shove, both Cory and now Noynoy, are willing to bite the bullet.

That he has come out and declared his intentions for higher service — that in itself is a makeover. It takes much to do that — to be able to go public when you’d rather stay private. In fact, it is only during family emergencies when you’ll see Noynoy coming to the family’s rescue—that’s when the Cory in him comes out.

I still find it hard to believe though when he says, “Tuloy ang laban,” for he doesn’t strike me as a fighter.  Rather than a flaming torch, this guy is a steady flame. And that can be a good thing.

To his allies, this constitutes his unique appeal—he is just being himself. And besides, with him planning to take on the presidency, his project is to run the country, not do Project Runway.

But what if Kris’s suggested makeover suggestion were to be done? In this kind of business, we all know her instincts have always been proven right. She’s spot on.

On a random Twitter shout out, I alternately asked Twitterworld peeps and the scene’s experts to give some suggestions on how to make over Noynoy, if we were to do it. Just a hypothetical one. (See Page G-3).

We even asked some local designers, including the ones he works with currently for his suits — Joey Samson and Ivarluski Aseron — to pitch in some ideas for his look. To better visualize this makeover vison, we sought the help of our friend Photoshop.

Noynoy the selfless

Noynoy, if you’re reading this, you may or may not follow. And because Kris will foot the bill for it, then no taxpayer’s money will be spent for your grooming and wardrobe.

More importantly, on another note, what Noynoy probably represents is selflessness. And now more than ever, maybe this is just what our country is yearning for.

And as with the makeover our country needs, a little enhancement for the man capable of doing this won’t hurt either.
