MANILA, Philippines - Shangri-La Plaza celebrates Arts Month this August with a lineup of exciting events.
The 2009 Ateneo Art Awards exhibition is ongoing until Aug. 17 at the Grand Atrium, Level 2. The theme, The Next Wave, showcases creations that embody the beauty of diverse and contemporary art practices. On exhibit are the works of the short-listed finalists, which range from painting, printmaking and photography to installations and sculptures. “Artists Give Back” runs until Aug. 31 at the Art Plaza, Level 4. Proceeds from the sales of the pieces created during the activity will go to the project beneficiary, the Cancer Warriors Foundation.
The endeavor took flight from a project of the Art Circle Gallery, where art instructor Nestor Calma, gave free “art therapy” lessons to children battling cancer, as well as other talented kids from a small barangay. Some of the renowned and up-and-coming artists who have participated in the event include Oscar Salita, Jose Barcelona, Joseph Banez, Jeff Dizon, Nilo Badajos, Pricilla Teodoro, Jose Hombrebueno, the Mahilum brothers, Eberly Catampongan and Rina Tiangco.
