What's your Zen moment?
The word “Zen” means the realization of the Buddha’s enlightenment. In today’s world, it has also come to mean small moments of separating ourselves from worldly concerns, from anxieties and worries, and being at peace — both in the mind and body. We can have small “Zen moments” every day, everywhere — and these friends share with us when and where they get that small space of oneness with the universe.
DAVID KAUFMANN, chairman, Kaufmann Inc./owner, Karma Antiques: If Zen is inner peace, then for me it is being with my beautiful wife and child — happy, healthy and content.
CHERYL TANTENGCO, fashion designer/personal shopper: My Zen moment was when I went to the hot springs resorts of Atami and Hakone, Japan.
KARINA PONCE ENRILE, fashion designer: On a boat in the middle of the ocean sipping rum Coke and just savoring the heat of the sun.
RIA ROMERO, marketing manager for Asia, Friendster Inc.: A Zen moment can happen every day if you feel at ease, live your days captivated and passionate, you have helped make changes for others no matter how small and have given in to knowing that you are an enlightened being created by God and can actually be a witness to small miracles. Life is fabulous if you believe it, that’s Zen to me.
DOTC Undersecretary LEN BAUTISTA: Visiting a chapel when there is no Mass hour and sitting in silence in a corner. Driving on a traffic-free Sunday while listening to Jesuit-composed music. Staying home watching TV. Playing with my two beautiful Labradors (Bruno and Brandy). Going out with friends for a quiet dinner or for a nightcap. Watching movies, plays or concerts with family and friends. Vacationing to the beach and sunbathing. Scuba diving. Traveling as a tourist and I can go out in shorts, tank top and flip-flops. Going to the spa to get all the whole nine yards — facial, body scrub, massage, foot spa, mani and pedi.
TERESA HERRERA, model/TV host: When I’m scuba diving with manta rays and whale sharks.
CHARINA SARTE, fashion designer: My Zen moment is every day I look out my balcony and I can see the sea on a clear day. This centers me and makes me appreciate the world we live in. There is so much beauty and good despite a lot of negative things that may exist.
HOMER FLORES, musical director/composer: My Zen moment is when I’m in a computer shop buying the latest stuff for my computers. Another one is when I’m watching a boxing event on TV.
