What’s the cheesiest song in the world?
There are songs that make us cry and songs that make us feel good. Then there are the songs that make us cringe and make us choose instead to listen to fingernails scratching a blackboard. I thought it would be fun to ask people in the music business what songs top their cheesy list.
JIMMY BONDOC, singer: It’s Every Woman but I like it.
MIGUEL ESCUETA, singer/composer/guitarist: As Long As You Love Me by the Backstreet Boys. Nothing is cornier than the lyrics of that song! But I have to say that I find myself singing along to some of their stuff once in a while.
KRIS LAWRENCE, R&B singer/champion of Star in a Million Season 2: Nothing gets cheesier than Endless Love, wouldn’t you agree? It ranks way up there in the mush register with its super-sappy lyrics that talk about “My first love, you’re every breath that I take, you’re every step I make.” Awww, man! It just makes you cringe!
GENEVA CRUZ, singer/actress: Touch My Body by Mariah Carey. Why? The title itself is already cheesy. Listen to the whole song and you’ll wonder why she recorded it in the first place. It’s rubbish.
POPS FERNANDEZ, concert queen: For me, it’s I’d Rather Have Bad Times With You Than Good Times With Someone Else. Usually, you want good memories with the person you’re with. I never want to remember the bad times.
TEX ORDONEZ, actor in the Hong Kong musical Around the World in 80 Days: It’s This Girl Has Turned into a Woman by Mary McGregor. There are love songs and then there are cheesy love songs. This one certainly tops the latter. I remember having to sing it one time in a school songfest during Valentine season and believe me, my natural curls turned straight! Well, I guess it’s all a matter of taste because I have gay friends who simply adore this song and know the lyrics by heart.
RACHEL ALEJANDRO, singer/theater actress/proprietress of Sexy Chef: The cheesiest song for me is Total Eclipse of the Heart but I like it.
AMBER DAVIS, MYX VJ/singer: The cheesiest song is Kembot, and Marcus and I made it.
JOANNA AMPIL, West End actress/singer: It’s To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before by Julio Iglesias.
