When are you most creative?
With the 11th Philippine Fashion Week a few days away, creative juices are flowing as our local designers mix a heady brew of colors and fabrics spiked with talent and originality that will surely tickle the palettes of fashion connoisseurs.
But how do they stir their passions and artistic energies to come up with round after round of inebriating designs?
Here are some of PFW’s featured designers as they share their thoughts on when they are most creative.
JULIUS TAROG: After a long day of work I go to our penthouse and smoke…with the view of the Sierra Madre mountain in the east and the
JOHN HERRERA: When I’m in front of a sewing machine.
PAUL HERRERA: When John’s in front of a sewing machine.
MITZI QUILENDRINO-BUSTOS: When I have recently been to an exotic place or seen interesting architecture or been inspired by mood music.
JUDITH PAJARO: I am the type of person who works well under pressure. I know it sounds absurd but I like the feeling of being harassed. My creative juices flow their finest under tension. It also helps that I am such a neat freak and I like things to be in order. Probably the chaos helps me think out of the box.
RONALDO ARNALDO: When I’m in the most unexpected places, like when I’m driving or when I’m in the shower or when I’m about to sleep. To capture these sudden bursts of creativity, I always bring a few handy pieces of paper and a pencil.
MICHELLE LIM: When I am traveling, going to beautiful places, seeing different people and what they do and wear. These are the times when my imagination is at its peak. Especially if it is the first time I am going to that place, I take inspiration from every detail I see, whether from their crafts, costumes or simply people walking down the streets.
JEROME SALAYA ANG: When I’m down or happy — depends on my mood!
GERRY KATIGBAK: When I see a person interested in my clothes, that’s when I get most creative.
JEROME LORICO: Normally, I feel more driven and directional when I sense something that is unconventional. It could be a new song, a tint of color, an interesting texture or a stimulating idea.
M. BARRETTO: When something or someone inspires me I become creative. When I see dull, plain, boring stuff, I get challenged and try to recreate or change it to make it more interesting.
ODELON SIMPAO: When I hear music, see art and am inspired by the little details that I notice. I am creative when I start designing, especially to enhance a woman’s body and form, creating modern and young designs, and experimenting with new techniques for my men’s line.
