Art can be so intimidating for many precisely because they feel they just don’t know what’s "good" and there’s such a premium on that, so they simply choose to stay away. In the end, most alienate themselves from art: This is me. That is art. But it shouldn’t be. I hate saying it but art really is food for the soul, so we have to make sure we are all well fed, regardless of what others might say about our choices. I think it is perfectly fine to go with anything that speaks to you. Nothing touches my heart more than my children’s drawings because they always fill up my most neglected spaces. Will their work ever make it to the Louvre? Not today. But I insist their paintings hold the most value in my home.
This is why I’m pleased to invite you to "Play of Colors 2007," on Saturday, March 31. This will be a fun experience with art and I promise it will not be hoity-toity. About 60 established and new artists have contributed their work for a silent auction that will benefit The Manila Waldorf School, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lumiere Art Gallery, ground floor, Locsin Bldg. corner Ayala Ave. & Makati Ave. No, my children’s drawings won’t be up for sale, but pottery from Lanelle Abueva, wearable art from Ginny Dizon, Fai Co, Paul Syjuco and others will be up for grabs. Also paintings by Arturo Luz, Edwin Wilwayco, Brenda Fajardo and Gilda Cordero Fernando, to name a few. There also will be photographs by Neal Oshima, Alex Baluyot, Denise Miñana and many more. So many artists have generously donated their work for our school. Our community of loving and active parents has come together as usual, to make this a good and lively event for all. This is great art for a good cause in a non-threatening environment. How cool is that?
