Star girlfriends who read

While busy rehearsing for their pre-Valentine show this weekend and tomorrow, Feb. 13, at the Music Museum, with show time at 8:30 p.m., I asked good friends Vina Morales, Geneva Cruz, and Rachel Alejandro if they still have time to read and what they like to read.

The girls share their top three books:
The Bible

I believe the Bible has the answers to life’s many questions.

THE WINNING ATTITUDE by John Maxwell

It teaches you how to change your attitude and maintain a mindset that leads to success. With the right attitude, you can overcome life’s difficulties and turn problems into opportunities.

THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE by Rick Warren

It shows you your life’s purpose and guides you to the right path.
Geneva Cruz

THE PROPHET by Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran covers the most basic topics – marriage, children, friendship, work, and pleasure – his words have a power of their own.

BROKEN WINGS by Kahlil Gibran

It tells of wealth as an impediment to happiness, the greed and corruption of the clergy, and the overwhelming power of love.

FRENCH WOMEN DON’T GET FAT: THE SECRET OF EATING FOR PLEASURE by Mireille Guiliano

It succeeds in convincing you that French women can eat bread, pastry, wine, and regular three-course meals and not get fat... Yeah, right!
Rachel Alejandro
HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE by J.K. Rowling

I love any story where the hero can fly. I found this to be the most fun of the Harry Potter series although it also made me cry. If you’ve read it, you know why.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen

I loved this novel as a child and read it a few times. It makes us realize that the issues about love are almost the same regardless of time and setting.

THE LEFT BEHIND SERIES by Tim La Haye and Jerry B. Jenkins

An action-packed fictional tales about the end of the world, I find it to be an imaginative take on the Book of Revelations. It promotes the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an entertaining way through the life of his characters.

The Reading Club recommends Embers by Sandor Marai. "Marai’s work is only magical in the sense that he completely engages his reader, spinning a web of words, as his wounded central character describes his betrayal and abandonment at the hands of his closest friend." Embers is available at all National Book Store and Powerbooks branches. We also recommend Business 2.0 from Emerald Headway.
