Please don’t destabilize Christmas!

- Wilson Lee Flores -
Are you willing to believe that love is the strongest thing in the world – stronger than hate, stronger than evil, stronger than death – and that the blessed life which began in Bethlehem 1,900 years ago is the image and brightness of the Eternal Love? Then you can keep Christmas. –Henry Van Dyke

My unimpeachable counter-intelligence agents – who are in no way linked to our military/police intelligence agents – recently confirmed that the wild destabilization rumor that Santa Claus is on a diet is false. The rumor that the world’s longest Christmas season in the Philippines will be shelved due to E-VAT or the economic "crisis-mas"!

I recently announced this in my speech at the Nov. 8 launching of Singapore’s newsmag F&B by Stram, Inc. at Museum Café in Greenbelt 3, Makati City.

An evil worse than heartless terrorists lurking in the shadows with bomb plots is the intelligence chaos plaguing the Philippine military and police service, muddling our body politic with inaccurate bombshells revealed to the media, which then blow up in the red faces of our highest government leaders.

Who are the intelligence agents or sycophant officers who fed President GMA flawed info about the arrest of a one-armed terrorist, who turned out to be the wrong guy with the wrong amputated arm? GMA was unwittingly made to announce this wrongful arrest. My intelligence assets claim that the nervous alibi the dodos reportedly gave GMA for this embarrassing fiasco was that they got the wrong fingerprint file, but the terrorist fugitive doesn’t have an arm for fingerprinting, so who are they kidding? My advice to GMA: order a few swell heads to be figuratively chopped off – meaning, fire a few nincompoops for lapse of basic intelligence!

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III recently denied an intelligence report being spread via text message that terrorist suspect Dawud Santos is reportedly a relative of their TV station EVP Charo Santos! I think that leaked military-intelligence report is another example of a sheer lapse of intelligence.

Why is it that no intelligent legislator is grandstanding at public hearings in aid of legislation on this insidious problem? Our republic is being bruised black and blue by "unverified intelligence reports," "unconfirmed intelligence data" or "intelligence reports from anonymous sources" being recklessly leaked by everyone everywhere. Even our current political crisis ignited by the "Garci tape" scandal was precipitated by a lapse in military intelligence – with the government’s own spies eavesdropping on and recording the cellphone conversations of their highest political bosses.

What amazes me to no end is that even our former President Fidel V. Ramos, himself a retired military general, blew his top when he read the news headline that government intelligence agents are spying on him. FVR was also adamant about denying that he is involved in any secret anti-GMA coup plot. Of course, the irate Commander-in-Chief GMA denied having intelligence agents spying on him. What’s the truth?
Christmas Will Be Happy
Though I am not an honorable "tong-gressman" or a "senile-tor," I am hereby proposing the passage of a new law penalizing anyone who dares to destabilize and subvert my favorite fiesta of Christmas. All who are convicted of this crime shall be punished by being required to wear Santa Claus suits with white beards. They must do community service which consists of standing for one week on Metro Manila’s busiest street corners, greeting one and all with the heartiest "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas po sa inyo!"

The first to be brought to court for destabilization attempts against Christmas is Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago. Why is she acting as chief government spy, claiming her intelligence sources predict a bloody coup attempt in December?

No matter how disgruntled soldiers and young officers are, I don’t believe they will subvert our sacrosanct Christmas celebration with a bloody military coup. I’m publicly challenging Senator Miriam Santiago to a bet on that.

I disagree with, but won’t jail the idealistic running priest Fr. Robert Reyes who declared that this will be the bleakest, blackest Christmas for the Philippines. With or without political peace on earth, I believe the spiritual essence and the exhilarating celebratory mood symbolized by the world’s longest Christmas fiesta in the Philippines can never be subverted.
