What’s your favorite breakfast?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo -
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but most of us don’t make time for breakfast because we are normally in a mad rush to get to work, school or wherever it is we might be going. However, breakfast eaters will attest to the fact that starting the day with a healthy breakfast makes for a perfect day. Although our typical Filipino breakfast fare like longanisa, tuyo, tocino and fried rice may not be the most healthy food around, there are a lot of healthy and easy to prepare breakfast food that can range from cereal to yogurt to oatmeal. Food expert Jo Duran, consumer services head of Nestle Philippines, has this to say: "Making breakfast part of our routine is a question of time management and it is worth the effort because of the long-term nutrition and health benefits it brings." This week, we take a peek into what our celebrity friends have for breakfast.

PATIS TESORO, author and fashion designer
: Sugarless coffee, fruits, wheat bread, sugar-free jam. This is not exactly my favorite breakfast but it is the kind of breakfast I should have because I am diabetic.

TESSI VILLARAMA, actress
: I regularly eat oatmeal and banana for breakfast – oatmeal to lower my cholesterol and tryglycerides – banana for energy and good complexion.

HENY SISON, culinary expert
: My typical breakfast consists of old-fashioned oatmeal with non-fat Carnation milk, toasted pan de sal or a plain bagel with Magnolia Gold butter spread, jams and fruits. If I want to indulge, I eat tuyo or tinapa with kamatis or vinegar and fried rice with egg cooked either poached, curdled or scrambled. Fruits and Carnation non-fat milk are always part of my breakfast.

GABBY EIGENMANN, TV/movie personality
: My favorite breakfast would be fat-free yogurt. I usually have a heavy lunch. But for breakfast, I usually have cereal and yogurt.

HANS MONTENEGRO, TV host
: I try to have a light but healthy breakfast. Usually, Nestle banana nut clusters cereal with skim milk and a cup of yogurt on the side.

PAOLO BEDIONES, TV host
: Because of my lifestyle, I am pretty much compelled to eat and run. I cannot have breakfast at my leisure so I resort to quick fixes like cereal and non-fat milk, fruits or a hot cup of Nestle Vita... which are great up on the mountains, too.

FERNANDO ARACAMA, chef/owner Uva restaurant
: I’m not a picky eater at all. I enjoy anything from leftovers (Chinese ham and queso de bola on Christmas morning!) to paksiw na isda, tocino, a stack of pancakes with real maple syrup or steak and eggs. I can change day to day but if there’s one thing I must have in the morning, it’s good dairy products. A tall glass of premium fresh full cream and chocolate milk is something I look forward to when I get up. I also love yogurt especially the one with mango bits which is always delicious.

CORY QUIRINO, fitness professional
: Treat your body with respect – this is one of my golden rules, so I try not to eat cooked food in the morning. A healthy breakfast means a great start to my day because I have energy and health in mind at that time. Since it should be my healthiest meal I begin with a bowl of fresh, mixed fruits like banana, cantaloupe, papaya and fitness cereal. I add a generous dose of milk and a teaspoon of honey.

ATTY. ALBERT ARCILLA, president/ceo, Volvo
: I have to start the day with a steaming cup of coffee with cream then I proceed to fixing my breakfast. On weekdays, when I stay in my flat, I’m basically a bread, butter, jam and cereal person. It’s quick, healthy and filling and I don’t need to wash any pans or skillets. But on weekends when I’m at home, I indulge. It’s a full meal with rice, sausage or beef jerky, orange juice and a choco drink. I also have eggs, fried sunny side up.
