What are you most thankful for?

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. It is such a wonderful tradition for many reasons: It brings family members and friends together; it makes us see that living is not a solitary endeavor; it humbles us; it fills our hearts with warmth for those who love us and compassion for those who have less in life; it makes us appreciative of the blessings we have received in the past year.
Best of all, it helps us remember to simply say thank you: to God, family, friends, and all the people that have touched our lives. And so we say, thank you, too, to those who are sharing their blessings in today’s column.
LANCE GOKONGWEI, president, Robinsons Land: I’m most grateful for my supportive and down-to-earth wife, my family and my coming baby daughter. On a personal note, I’m grateful that God has put me in a position where I can make a big difference at a relatively young age.
MARY PRIETO, etiquette guru: I’m grateful for the blessings the Lord has given me, but most of all, the family that I have. I am also grateful that we as a people have been able to hold on to our faith and make the most of what we have.
FELIPE GOZON, president, CEO and chairman of the board, GMA-7 Network: I am most thankful for all the success I’ve been blessed with including GMA 7, particularly this year.
THERESE CORONEL SANTOS, vice president, Cinderella Marketing Corp.: There are many things I am thankful for – my family, good health and everything my parents taught me. I’m thankful that Cinderella has lasted more than 50 years and continues to move forward, ever supportive of the local garment industry.
WINNIE NAZARETH, Ayala Land Commercial Centers assistant vice president for marketing and entertainment: I’m thankful for the Filipinos’ desire to enjoy life in spite of these difficult times. Filipinos continue to flock to malls, to shop, entertain themselves or just hang out with friends and family. After all is said and done, we are not just in the business of developing malls. Rather, we need to create moments.
ENRICO VILLANUEVA: center, MVP Ateneo Blue Eagle UAAP champion: There are people in my life that I want to thank God for – my mom and dad for choosing the best school for me, Ateneo coach Joel Banal for bringing out the best in me, to the kids who look up to me as their role model – you are my guardian angels. To the Ateneo community, thanks for the ride. Lastly, to those who did not believe in the Blue Eagles – thanks for the challenge!
JOY WASSMER, director of communications, Makati Shangri-La Hotel: I am thankful for my family, my mom, my husband, kids and in-laws. They are caring, understanding and very supportive.
ROBERT SEÑA, international artist: I’m thankful that God is always there to provide everything I need... my family, my career and my salvation.
MARITONI FERNANDEZ, actress: Life, good health and family, love, security and lasting friendships. Courage and strength to face this world’s challenges and pain, and the gift of God to be able to take this journey.
JOSEPHINE KNOX, civic-minded lady: First, my parents for their love, values and providing me with the proper education which has enabled me to become a responsible and caring human being. Second, my brother and sisters for a happy childhood. Third, my husband and best friend, Erv, for making my journey on earth more interesting and meaningful. Fourth, my witty and wonderful friends. Fifth, God, for blessing me with all of the above and good health!
