Millions of text messages are sent and received in the Philippines and around the world each day. Texting links us with one another, giving us the chance to keep in touch with friends, to share our joys and sadness. In many instances, it gives us the venue to communicate with people we barely know – they will answer a text message and often ignore a ringing phone that flashes a number they don’t know. That’s the advantage of texting. On the other hand, now we no longer have an excuse for being late for an appointment! Or forgetting to greet a friend on his birthday.

It’s always nice to receive heartwarming text messages. They never fail to make my day. I’m sure readers will agree that text messaging is really one of the great inventions of our times. It has changed the way we live, the way we communicate, and more importantly, the way we show our love to the people close to our hearts.

Robbie Puno, chief operating officer of Cabalen Restaurants: You know a TV commercial is a hit when a text joke is made about it shortly after it first airs. These two are my current favorites, both inspired by McDonald’s:

The first one says, "Ito para sa paborito kong apo," and then a blank screen. I press the down arrow many times more and still a blank screen. Then finally, "Ano ba ang hinahanap mo? Apo ba kita?"

And this one:

"Please be careful when going through a McDonald’s Drive-Thru. Keep your doors locked, your windows up and beware of strangers lurking around you. Baka bigla na lang pumasok si Sharon Cuneta sa kotse mo!"
