A dinner for a dear friend
May 12, 2002 | 12:00am
Happy Mothers Day!
Power couple Ronnie and Menchu Concepcion tendered a dinner for their dear friend, Ascot-based Nene Quimson.
The wife of a former ambassador to the Court of St. James, Nene is a philanthropist and an international jetsetter who flies to her motherland whenever she can. On each return, Nene makes sure she renews friendships and strengthens relationships.
Nene had that chance during the special dinner held at the posh, Oriental-themed Concepcion home in North Forbes. The lawn was transformed into a breathtaking winter wonderland with white canopies, silver curtain and white linen-covered tables. The guests lent colors to the scene, dressed in reds and lapis lazuli blue.
Seen greeting Nene were Ambassador Ramon del Rosario; Ambassador Josie Lichauco; Joe Concepcion; Cesar Buenaventura, Bobby and Dick Romulo; Asias Fashion Czar Pitoy Moreno; lady of grace Imelda Cojuangco; Ching Montinola; super banker O.V. Espiritu; stylish Judy Araneta Roxas; and many others.
Eddie Katindig of the famous Katinding musicians played famous old songs on the saxophone to the delight of the crowd.
Cathay Pacific Airways feted its top travel and cargo agents with a swinging 60s party.
The airlines country manager Adrian Harley was certainly feeling groovy that night as he walked inside the Mandarin Oriental ballroom wearing an unbeatable hot pink snakeskin suit with matching blue shoes! Equally outrageous was Adrians marketing and sales team who donned shift and culotte dresses with colorful floral prints and geometric patterns. Big hairdos, false eyelashes, pale makeup and fish net stocking were also in vogue that night.
Guests were thrilled with face and body painting between cocktails. Knock-knock jokes reminiscent of the 60s TV show Rowan and Martin spiced up the night just as a five-course sumptuous dinner did.
The show proper began when Michael Williams, Sheik Abraham, and Sheila Valderama dished out songs from Burt Bacharach and the musicale, Promises, Promises. Guests couldnt help sing along and even danced on stage to the all-familiar nostalgic tunes!
A preview of the airlines new and exciting business class featuring its widest full stretch seat, private dressing room, mini bar, inflight entertainment and e-mail was given that night.
The evenings highlight was the awarding of the airlines top supporters for the past year: Uni-Orients George Gaw; Pan Pacific Travels Albert Fu; Horizon Travels Tony Cua; Pioneer Tours Jane Cuyegkeng; BTI Marsmans Melissa Ungson; Thomas Cook Phils. Lucille Chabeldin; Fortune Travels Zenaida Chua; Morning Stars Emilio Garchitorena; Travel Savers Claire Santos; Rajah Tours Alice San Juan; Freight Options Perry Villanueva; Airspeed Tower Groups Joey Garcia; Bax Globals Chris Pollard; Nippon Express Toshikazu Shimizu; and last but not the least, Expertrans Freights Rene Austria.
"Now, youre flying!"
