La vie en Rosas

For the first time in the history of Philippine fashion and photography, makeup artist Patrick Rosa and photographer Jun de Leon team up to document Filipino beauty today.

The bookPatrick Rosas Images features some of the country’s most beautiful people whose ravishing portraits were created by Patrick and captured on film by Jun.

The idea came to Patrick during one of his trips to Europe. He decided that it was about time the world saw a different picture of the Philippines. Enough of economic recession, kidnappings and political turmoil. Our country not only has beautiful landscapes, we are home to a beautiful race.

Patrick Rosas Images took 16 months to prepare and features 137 personalities. It will be launched on Oct. 10.

Here, we feature nine beautiful and colorful personalities from the book. We also asked Patrick how he unlocked the beauty and revealed the spirit of his subjects.

Rosanna Tuason Fores
– The woman has a strong presence, but you can see in her eyes that she’s gentle.

Gina De Venecia
– Cinematic. Incidentally, she is the daughter of the late Doc Perez of Sampaguita Pictures. My inspiration for Manay Gina’s pictorial was Hollywood movie actress Ann Margaret.

Rep. Imee Marcos
– Cosmopolitan. She’s the only one I know who can wear a Filipina outfit with character.

Gretchen Barretto
– Modern classic.

Ed Calma
– Terminator.

Margarita Araneta Fores
– I envisioned her as a Masai Tribal Princess. For her top, we used an ingredient she’s most famous for – pasta.

Carlos Agassi
– Warrior. He has overcome a lot of obstacles. I see him as a fighter.

Chin Chin Gutierrez
– Amazon. I wanted to challenge her and totally erase her beauty. Far from being overpowered, she was still beautiful and carried off the character.

Isabella
– Angel with an attitude. In the book, we put her beside Robin Padilla; they jive.
