Going seaside with Mothercare

MANILA, Philippines - This season, Mothercare heads for the shores of Southern Europe for a traditional approach to nautical dress with soft, washed Riviera styling.

The color palette is drawn from the Mediterranean, using the depth of the blues from the sky to the sea to bring together peaceful shades of ocean and indigo blue, set off by white, warm scarlet and coral pink.

For girls the look is casual and laidback with a soft sparkle, using sequins to decorate anchors, big bows and rope detail. Contrast stripes, pockets and piping finished with a rope style belt show marine style in a contemporary spirit. Looking at the sea with its simple wonders and little treasures, graphics and typography feature fish, anchors, seashells and fresh watercolor prints. Key shapes of the look are drop-hem dresses, breton tees, chinos and the key staple stripe blazer worn with twist yarn cable knits to keep the sea breeze at bay.

For boys it’s ocean-inspired graphics of anchors, fish and boat prints with “little captain” typography and distressed-effect denims. Cuffs are turned up on trousers, shorts and shirts for modern styling on a traditional story. Ensuring the right mix of cool but casual for seaside play, cable knits have crew necks, shorts are embroidered with smart small anchors and gingham shirts feature mini and maxi checks and contrast pockets.
