Experience Europe at TheChristkindlmarket
With the countless bazaars during the holiday season, it can be difficult for one to stand out from another. Though they will always be something one looks forward to and you can’t argue that they offer good deals on great products, many have similar merchants and expected items. When the European Chamber of Commerce decided to join in this tradition, a top priority for them was to have an event that would set themselves apart from the rest and give the Philippine market something unique through a very special experience.
The Christkindlmarket was the obvious choice as it was the perfect merge of the Philippine holiday bazaar tradition with the European holiday market tradition. Both have elements of an annual street market which the community looks forward to. Both also sell quality products which are useful and indulgent during the holiday season such as garments, accessories, toys, delicacies and pastries. What will set the Christkindlmarket apart from the bazaars the Philippine consumer is used to is that most things sold will be European or European inspired. From popular British clothing brands to specialty wooden toys from Germany, there will be many gift options for everyone on your shopping list. Dining there will also be a unique gastronomic experience as they will showcase the best French and Swiss cheeses, Salamis from Italy and Chorizos from Spain, and an abundance of European sweets such as Austrian Pastries and Turkish Baklava. One element which the Christkindlmarket is especially known for is the serving of hot wine or Gluhweinwhich is definitely, on its own, reason enough to come. Of course, as with all holiday shopping destinations, there will be a variety of Christmas décor and home accessories to choose from.
Asides from the distinctive assortment of products, The European Chamber of Commerce hopes to truly bring the Christkindlmarket feel to Manila. The first task was to find a cold location in the heart of the Metro to emulate wintertime. The SM Mall of Asia Skating Rink was an easy choice as it permanently frosty and has the capacity to fit a large variety and amount of concessionaires. They also wanted to do an almost exact replica of the market’s usual set up in the different cities across Europe so they have studied the exteriors of the booths to come up with a design. This will truly be a winter wonderland which will be a feast for the eyes of both adults and children alike. Just be sure to come in warm comfy clothes as there is a promise of snowfall so that all consumers may enjoy a white Christmas. The ECCP believes that it gives the European Filipinos and Foreigners a chance to feel at home while also making local consumers get the European Christmas experience.
