Transformers and GI Joe toys rule at boys fair
MANILA, Philippines - Toys ‘R’ Us marked its boys’ fair with the Grand Transformers’ Day and GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra events. The toy store transformed Robinsons Galleria’s Activity Center into a hub where Transformers and GI Joe fans — whose ages ranged from five to 65 years old — gathered for two weekends of fun games and great deals on toys and merchandise.
Cybertron Philippines, the biggest Filipino online community with an interest in and passion for Transformers and GI Joe, supported the event with toy collectors’ exhibits and mounted games while families and other shoppers had a great time for photo-ops with cos-players.
The Grand Transformer’s Day opened with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Nilo Mapa, general manager of Robinsons Malls, and his sons Pepe, Santino and Alejandro; John O’ Rourke, business head of South Asia, Hasbro Far East Limited; and a Cybertron Philippines representative.
Kids of all ages tried to outwit and outsmart each other in the exciting games. A toy vault with Transformers toys was displayed and those who picked the right key to open the vault took home the toys inside. Customers in costumes were given special prizes.
Toys ‘R’ Us carries the toys from both the Transformers movies. Detroit or Witwicky House or Desert Battle and Robot Heroes (G1+Beast Wars) were displayed in a diorama while the other toys were showcased in a table-type aquarium.
Another highlight was the availability of hard-to-find Transformers items exclusive to Toys ‘R’ Us during the event, such as Master of Metallikato, two-pack 3” Titanium Series, Ultimate Bumblebee Supercharged, Revenge of the Fallen Deluxe and Voyager Figures, Transformers Movie 2 Human Alliance with Bumblebee, Souvenir teen and kids shirts, and Bumblebee and Optimus Prime costumes and masks.
Other interesting and rare finds were MVL Transformers Crossovers W1R1 including Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-man. Other toys available were sci-fi heroes that can be transformed into an X-Wing Fighter, Tie Advanced x1 Starfighter and Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker. Shoppers also enjoyed shopping for Transformers toys discounted up to 70 percent.
At the GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra event held July 11, a new range of toys from the movie was featured, including figures, play sets and vehicles. Exclusive toys were GI Joe Crimson Guard and Firefly GI Joe Troopers. Formally opening the event were Tommy O, vice president for property management for Robinsons Malls, and Stephen Si of Cybertron Philippines.
Both events also featured an Auto World Fest with its wide array of toy vehicles like remote-control and die-cast cars, trains, trucks, helicopters and more at all Toys ‘R’ Us in Robinsons Galleria, Ermita, Metroeast, Lipa, Bacolod; and its Toys ‘R’ Us Toyboxes located at all Robinsons Department Stores. Toys ‘R’ Us is also located at TriNoma Mall and Alabang Town Center. Log on to www.toysrus.com.ph.
