Valdez flag bearer ng Team Philippines sa SEAG
MANILA, Philippines — Pinangalanan si volleyball star Alyssa Valdez bilang flag bearer ng Team Philippines sa 32nd Southeast Asian Games opening ceremony na idaraos sa Biyernes sa Morodok Techo Stadium sa Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Si Valdez ang mangunguna sa delegasyon ng Pilipinas sa parada kung saan binubuo ito ng female-dominated representation.
“Alyssa best fits our goal of an almost all-female delegation in the opening ceremony. She’s not only the face of Philippine volleyball, but Philippine sports as well,” ani Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.
Mauunang darating sa Cambodia si Valdez na nakatakdang umalis sa Biyernes para makadalo sa opening rites.
Ang women’s volleyball team naman ay tutulak pa-Cambodia sa Sabado.
“It’s such an honor to be the flag bearer for this year’s SEA games. It’s a big responsibility but I’m grateful for the trust given to me once again,” ani Valdez.
Ito ang ikalawang pagkakataon na magiging flag bearer si Valdez ng pambansang delegasyon na naging flag bearer na rin sa Singapore edisyon ng SEA Games noong 2015.
“I first had the opportunity to carry our Philippine flag in 2015 in Singapore and it was an unforgettable experience. I share this with all the women in sports who brought honor and glory to the country,” ani Valdez.
Sina Tolentino at chef de mission Chito Loyzaga lamang ang bukod-tanging lalaki sa delegasyon na magpaparada sa opening rites.
“This is a first in SEA Games history,” ani Tolentino.
Susuotin ng delegasyon ang Francis Libiran-designed na puting barong na paparesan ng itim na pantalon.
