Danny Tan and his furry tales

DOG DAZE - Kathy Moran - The Philippine Star

I decided that a doggy fashion show here at Fairview Terraces would be a good way to bring pet owners and their dogs together in a place that is loved by many humans,” said composer, musical director and pet store owner Danny Tan. “Pinoys love to take care of their dogs and dress them up. There are dog owners who love to give their doggy companions extra attention. And, if the owners are happy, the pets are happy, too.”

It was a rather large crowd of dogs and humans that gathered at the activity center of the Fairview Terraces that Sunday.  I was told that there were over 60 humans and pets who had signed up for the doggy fashion show organized by Furry Tails, the pet store owned by Tan.

Nagbabatuhan ng good vibes ang dogs and their humans,” added Tan.

And, yes, I have to admit that the place was filled with good vibes as humans lovingly dressed their dogs before the start of the show. Only taking time to fix themselves up after they had made sure that their doggy companions were coiffed and ready.

Tan shared that because Ayala Malls, which manages the Fairview Terraces, was so excited about the dog show, it encouraged him to go all out in promoting it. Tan shared that he turned to Facebook to announce “Doggie Day Out” fashion show. And, he admits that the number of pet groups that said they would join the event surprised him.

Tan first set up his pet shop Furry Tails in SM North EDSA 17 years ago. He says that to this day, the shop is doing well.

But, he wanted something different at Fairview Terraces so he is in the process of building a daycare center for dog owners who love to bring their dogs with them to the mall.

“It is a place where dog owners and their pets can have a fun time playing because we have a playground, and a people and dog cafe,” added Tan. So, the humans can have coffee while waiting for the dogs to be groomed.  The dogs can also eat with their humans in the cafe.”

Tan says he only sells small animals in his pet store and store is more of an accessories and pet food place — and now, it has a spa.

Tan is still active in the music industry as he co-manages David Ezra, the son of Dulce. And, he is preparing for the musical concert of singer Dulce on Sept. 8 and 9 at the Music Museum where he is the musical director.

Have you taught your dogs to sing or composed any songs for your pets? We ask.

“I have not taught my dogs to sing yet, but they know how to sit and stay,” he laughs.  “I am planning to compose a theme song for the shop called Furry Tails. I also want to create a story book with our mascot Lulu and our other mascots.”

Tan says that he wants his store in Fairview Terraces to be different — one that offers a multimedia experience for customers and their kids when they visit Furry Tails.

The show started at 4:30 p.m.  with judges Dulce,  Ciso Chan, Johnny Filart, Christopher Malonzo and Marie Anne Sta. Anna with the daunting task of picking who would be the fairest of all the contestants that day.

Let the dogs out now.
