Cat tales from Pet Express
MANILA, Philippines - It was a purr-y afternoon as Pet Express, the Dog and Cat shop, recently held “Cat Tales: A Cat’s Nutrition and Health Care Seminar†at the SM Mall of Asia South Pavilion.
Organized by Pet Express, the specialty store for your dog and cat needs, the event highlighted not only healthcare and nutrition, but also espoused a good cause. Every P300 single-receipt purchase of selected items from Pet Express entitled one to donate a can of Sheba Premium Wet Cat Food to CARA (Compassion and Responsibility for Animals) Welfare Philippines.
Each donor had the chance to sign their name and pledge their love for cats. Likewise, they could also adopt a cat in the special CARA booth. Participating brands included Whiskas, Catsan, Sheba and Kitekat.
During the event, Dr. Leilani Acero, a resident veterinarian and Mars Philippines Pet Specialty Channel specialist, shared some expert tips on feline nutrition and behavior, while Dr. Valerie Velez, a resident veterinarian and technical sales manager for Simon Enterprises, discussed feline healthcare and wellness.
Tips on how to keep their feline friends healthy:
A cat’s body should be firm and fleshed put, but not too skinny or overweight. So keep your pet at a healthy body weight.
Exercise your pet regularly, stimulating them to play with small moving objects.
Feed your pet a balanced, digestible and nutritious diet. Cats like to eat food at body temperature and they also prefer variety to prevent nutritional deficiency. As such, store-bought cat food ensures that the cat is getting the right nutrients they need.
Have your veterinarian examine your pet at least once a year to make sure it is healthy and illness free.
Vaccinate your pet against potentially deadly diseases such as distemper, parvo, rabies and panleukopenia.
Keep your pet flea-free. Consult your vet for the best de-fleaing agent for your pet. If you do find that your cat has fleas, you must also treat her environment. Remove all of your cat’s beddings and wash it well in hot water, along with the box or basket.
Spaying and neutering your pet can extend your cat’s life and can reduce your cat’s over- aggressive tendencies.
