Cristalle Belo-Henares is one of those people who really have it all. She’s beautiful, hardworking and surprisingly, truly down to earth.
Being the daughter of Vicki Belo, second in command of the Belo empire and at the helm of her own brand Sexy Solutions, it’s easy to think that, living in the heart of the beauty business, she’d be frivolous and superficial. On the contrary, that is very far from the truth! Cristalle often dedicates her free time to charity and enjoys wholesome activities: scuba diving, aerial silk, and horseback riding, to name a few.
With all that energy it’s no wonder that Maki, her three-year-old male Shih-Tzu, has so much spunk! Meet him and learn about what it’s like to be at home with the Belo women.
KALOO: Describe yourself in three words.
MAKI: Lovable, excitable, two-woman man.
How is it being part of such a large family? How many siblings do you have and who are you closest to?
I have six siblings all in all (a Japanese Spitz, three Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers, one Jack Russell and one Sharpei). My bestie of all is Lars. I guess it’s because of our size — we’re both the smallest in the pack. We love doing silly activities together. During Valentine’s Day, our humans tied heart balloons on our collars and had us walk around the village. Humans would actually stop their cars and have photos taken with us because we were so cute!
Describe your relationship with your human. What do you guys like to do together? She’s always so busy! How do you get to spend time with each other?
I have two humans I love — Vicki and Cristalle! I was originally a gift to Cristalle so I’m closer to her, but eventually got really close to Vicki as well.
Cristalle is more my playmate and buddy and Vicki treats me like her baby. Because they’re out of the house most of the time, I wait around all day for my humans to come home. When they do, I greet them with a burst of energy and follow them around the whole time!
Name one time you got into major trouble and how you got out of it.
The first time I met Cristalle, she was sick in bed. I was brought in, by car, from my breeder’s house and as soon as I got to Cristalle’s, they brought me straight to her. I was nervous and excited and ended up pooping on her chest! But I looked scared and naturally very cute, so it was easy for my human to forgive me!
What’s a typical day like for you?
Sometimes my human makes me sleep in her room. Vicki usually wakes up first and begins the day by cuddling and tickling me on my tummy! She then brings me down to pee. If I see Lars, then we play, but if not, I go back up again and wait for Cristalle to wake up.
Cristalle kicks around her doggie slippers for me to run after. I wrestle them down but then I wonder why they don’t move and why they don’t want to play with me.
I play with the dogs and do my daily exercise around the village until my humans come back home and I get to hang out with them again.
What are your fave hobbies?
Belly dancing — my humans love it and I sometimes wear the belt. No, I’m not gay. I just like feeling bonded with my ladies. I do an awesome two-leg dance with a twirl when I want my treats, though.
Snuggling and cuddling — my humans are really generous with hugs and kisses. I’m not allowed on the bed but when they’re sleeping, I jump on the couch and snuggle up against this chic Yayoi Kusama pumpkin pillow. I appreciate couture because of my humans.
Hanging with humans — I can be a bit feisty when humans meet me for the first time. It’s because I’m really protective of my humans. But when humans connect with me, I get really comfortable with them. Two people I love are:
Jojie Dingcong — he owns three Shih Tzus as well and loves to talk and has so much information and stored knowledge so I like listening to him.
Edward Mendez — this guy is my idol. He’s like Superman in the flesh. If I were a human, I’d want to be as hot as he is! He trains my humans to get fit and sexy so he’s always in the house. He eats while he puts them on a diet.
Your fave food? And if you could have anything in the world, even forbidden stuff, what would be your ultimate meal?
I’m not picky… I eat anything! I do really enjoy the lamb ribs they give me sometimes but it might be too unhealthy to have it all the time.
I know that chocolate is a no-no for dogs because theobromine can increase my blood pressure, but my humans eat it every single day, morning and night. If there’s one thing I could ask of God, it’s to give me a day in Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory!
Describe your dream vacation and where would it be.
Anywhere as long as it’s with my humans! But maybe someplace cooler. This coat I have on me is quite thick and with Manila’s humid weather, I really want to try somewhere colder.
I also noticed, though, that my human Cristalle likes scuba diving. I’m still afraid of the water but hopefully, when I gain some confidence, I can go down and explore a different world with her!
What would be your ultimate happy moment?
Meeting my match. I can’t wait for the day I see her and just know that we’re meant for each other.
Also please share a few intimate things about your human family.
My humans allow me to be the boss.
My humans love everything cute and always make it a point to bring home a little something for me, whether it’s a lei from Hawaii or a bouquet of peonies that I can relax and rest under.
My humans are workaholics and the best way to get their attention is to walk into their shots.
