How Swiss it is at pet-friendly Crosswinds Tagaytay

DOG DAZE - Kathy Moran - The Philippine Star

It is not a secret that anyone who has a pet or who is a pet lover is happy that there are more and more places that have become pet friendly.  Making it even better is that these places are truly spaces where animals, which are on leashes, can explore in the company of their responsible humans.

My little doggy Vodka loves the outdoors so much that she jumps and yaps when she sees her leash and collar, a clear sign that a trip outdoors is in store for her. She is made even more happy when I let her take her fave seat in the car because she knows that the place she will soon visit will be one that is different from her regular haunts  at least that’s what I think she thinks.

And then there is Crosswinds, Tagaytay  a development of Brittany Corporation.  Last weekend Crosswinds was the perfect venue for its fourth dog show in the community, the Cavite Canine Club’s 116th and 117th All Breeds Dog Show.

“For most of us animal lovers, we want to provide our beloved pets with the freedom and space to run around and play. This is also to help them keep fit and healthy, “ shares Trixie Dial, marketing Head of Brittany Corporation. “Crosswinds is a 100-hectare community located in Tagaytay. The sprawling open spaces and rolling terrain make it the perfect place for pets, especially dogs, to run around and play. The cool Tagaytay breeze is a welcome change from the hot summer heat. The fresh air and crisp scent of over 20,000 pine trees in the development makes it an ideal place for pets and their owners.”

I know just how important open space can be when a doggy is part of an all-breed dog show. There is so much stress that goes into the preparations for these shows. I should know  I used to join dog shows before. I remember how much we had to prepare my champion Mini Schnauzer Yuri for the competitions. Sure there was much joy in his victories.  But I can still remember how he had to take a few days after the show just sleeping to recover from all the stress of competing.

Making it doubly difficult for Yuri was the fact that most of these dog shows in Manila were held in the covered courts of village parks where the dogs were not allowed to wonder beyond the confines of the dog show area.

But, At Crosswinds I was pleasantly surprised to discover so much open space.

“Crosswinds is very much a pet-friendly community,” adds Dial.  “The only area where pets are restricted is in the Grand Quartier condo. We restrict pets in the common areas in the condominiums as to not disturb the other unit owners.”

It comes as no surprise that the Cavite Canine Club has chosen Crosswinds Tagaytay for the venue of its shows. The dogs can take a breather from the rigors of the competition and feel the cool Tagatay breeze as it blows against their little furry bodies.

As I stood and watched the dogs prepare for the competition I was also informed that Crosswinds has a selection of outdoor and indoor venues. There is the event lawn, which is located at one of the highest peaks in the property. It’s a large sprawling open space that boasts of a magnificent view and the cool Tagaytay breeze.

Another option is the Crosswinds banquet hall. The three-story structure offers different options for every type of event. The first floor is a breakfast hall, while the second level is a sprawling venue for functions. The third level is made up of smaller rooms for corporate events and meetings.

Crosswinds is Brittany’s prime leisure development. It is a 100-hectare Swiss-inspired community located in Tagaytay.  The place is truly charming especially the on-the-rise Alpine Village, a seven-hectare cluster of residential and commercial buildings patterned after the quaint Swiss towns in the Alps. The latest enclave will be located at the entrance of the Crosswinds community.

Spending the weekend with my doggies and my best friends is one of the best things in life for me  and if weekends can include out of town sorties that makes them even better.  At Crosswinds I was told that the commercial area will be charming clusters of specialty shops, quaint cafes, unique restaurants and organic markets. Brittany will offer a shopping and dining experience that is one of a kind. Currently open is the picturesque Crosswinds Café, a lovely outdoor spot that offers the first taste of the Alpine Village.

The Alpine Village will also be home to the Hilltop Chapel. To be located at one of the highest peaks in Crosswinds, Brittany offers spectacular views as you worship from a new setting. A stone’s throw away from the commercial area will be the luxurious Alpine Towers development, made up of three towers reminiscent of the chalets of Switzerland.

Brittany is currently offering One Alpine Tower, the first residential area in the Alpine Village. This eight-story mid-rise tower only offers up to 18 units per floor keeping the exclusivity of the unit owners in mind.

Crosswinds also offers hotel accommodations for those who want to sample the indulgent Swiss lifestyle. With Crosswinds, Brittany brings the old-world charm of Switzerland and the Alps to the perfect backdrop of Tagaytay.

Let the show begin

As I watched the dogs enter the ring I updated myself onthe Cavite Canine Club, Inc. (CCCI). I read that the CCI was established in 2000 and is affiliated with the Philippine Canine club, Inc. (PCCI). The aim of the Club is to promote purebred dogs in the province of Cavite. The current president of the CCCI is Eduardo T. Sy. Through his untiring efforts he has already organized 117 dog shows under foreign and local judges.

If you are not familiar with all-breed dog shows, well, here’s a little backgrounder for you. The dogs were divided into 10 groups. These groups are classified by the Federacion Cynologique International (FCI), in which the PCCI is a member. The event judges were Keven Harris and Bobby Tesoro.

I was happy that I came that day. The ambience is definitely what makes Crosswinds different.  It was such a refreshing feeling to be in a place that offers a picturesque setting. The combination of the gorgeous rolling terrain, over 20,000 pine trees and architecture reminiscent of Swiss chalets make up breathtaking views not seen anywhere else in the country. This makes any event held within the property truly memorable.
