MANILA, Philippines - Be part of the miracle of a rescued dog’s transformation — adopt from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Animal Rehabilitation Center, Aurora Blvd, Quezon City.
Just looking at these happy photos of animals getting a second chance at a good life inspires many people, myself included, to contribute to the cause of animal welfare by adopting, volunteering or donating.
Here are a few miracle stories:
When Sherry was rescued at Anonas, Quezon City she was an emaciated, mangy puppy who was just four weeks old. A PAWS volunteer fostered her until a space cleared up in the PAWS quarantine kennel. She bloomed into a beautiful adult Aspin who was adopted by the family of Generoso Belen.
Fifi was found in Cubao last August 2012 with a thin piece of wire around her mouth. “She probably escaped slaughter,†says Cha Laxamana, PAWS Shelter administrative officer, who was part of the rescue team that saved Fifi. On January 8, this sweet, intelligent dog was adopted by PAWS volunteer, Marga Tanchuling who is extremely proud of her. Fifi is now among the few Aspins enrolled in an agility training course.
Chase is so-named because rescuers had to chase him in the middle of C5 Highway. Though thin and starving, the dog with the crusty skin and eye infection was driven by an intense fear. Tired PAWS rescuers finally cornered Chase after an hour. Chase is on the quick road to recovery at the PAWS Shelter. He stands still and asks to be petted — a good sign, according to the PAWS behavior training team members.
Gene was hacked by a cruel person. While the gaping wound on her side has already healed, PAWS behavior-training volunteers are still trying to get this dog to trust humans again. PAWS hopes that both Gene and Chase will be adopted soon.
