Northern Samar launches Animal Birth Control Center
MANILA, Philippines - In Catarman, Northern Samar the head of the anti-rabies and dog registration program is the very dynamic Dr. Chari Cornillez. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) was witness to how owners were encouraged to register their dogs so that they could be properly tagged and identified.
When a girl came to claim her dog that was caught by dog-catchers on the street, Dr. Chari explained the Anti-Rabies Law provisions to the girl — that dogs were not allowed to roam the streets unless they are at the end of a leash being walked by their owners. The girl was given a rabies vaccination card, a tag and advice that the dog should be taken back for next year’s registration and anti-rabies shots.
PAWS Spay-Neuter Team was in Northern Samar last July to spay and neuter about 50 animals for free. On July 16 the local government of Samar inaugurated its newly constructed Animal Birth Control Center or ABC Center. The ABC Center is only the second of its kind in the Visayas.
