Horticulture show ongoing in Quezon City

Horticulture 2009 is ongoing until tomorrow at the elevated garden of Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City. Dubbed “A Walk in the Park,” the show features various garden clubs and individuals exhibiting artistic ways of arranging plants and flowers in a landscape.

The participants include the Cactus and Succulent Society, Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Manila, Philippine Bonsai Society, Fern and Nature Society, Natural Stone Society, King Louis Flowers and Plants, Lipa Blooms, Metts Plant Arts, Noel Vincent Canicula, Norma K. Villanueva, the group of Lardy Abundo, Tess Baldonado and Lois Estrella and Constancio Basis. There are also individual plant and landscape competitions.

Lectures today are on the sexual propagation of hibiscus by Dr. Francisco San Diego and flower arranging by Pearl Banaag; tomorrow’s lectures are on cacti and succulents by Peter Bangayan and tray landscaping by Serapion S. Metilla. A raffle of plants and other garden materials follows.

The exhibit was formally opened by Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte.
