Interaksyon’s daring fresh take
Turning your thoughts on the news into news
Comments and conversations are often noise to a traditional news team, but Interaksyon makes room for the best of them. As a result, the language of news and information becomes more accessible and its coverage more relevant and engaging.
This unique take on online reportage is what we set out to do since April 2018 when the former TV5 news portal transferred to its new home, Philstar Global.
Building on its legacy as major online news outlet, Interaksyon is now a current affairs web magazine that reacts to what it saw and feared: A tired news landscape that tends to tap the same institutional sources and air official pronouncements while ignoring observations, thoughts and inquiries of the crowd, no matter how valid.
A sister of Philstar.com, a news site known for its clear and contextual reporting, Interaksyon strives to keep its young millennial and GenZ readers up-to-speed on the most interesting discussions online.
Despite offering stories with lighter themes at the surface, Interaksyon’s journalists employ a method of listening and research that dig deeper than usual, but these are presented in an interesting and engaging manner. Cursory studies we’ve done suggest that casual online readers—who tend to consume news a lot less than the average news junkie—prefer Interaksyon’s content over competitors’ own verticals.
Unlike traditional news outfits, Interaksyon is at the same time casual and professional, amusing and serious, entertaining and bold.
“I like that it is very versatile, it can tackle everything from politics to light-hearted trends due to its focus on online conversations, which can be limitless,” Interaksyon digital producer Jeline Malasig said.
Digital producer Catalina Ricci Madarang explained it this way: “What makes Interaksyon different is that it covers and tackles issues in a more explanatory yet conversational manner.”
Apart from its shareable and snackable news products, Interaksyon also contrasts events, people, policies and views under its #JuxtaposedToday series.
While first in its type of reportage in the Philippines, Interaksyon’s fresh take on journalism has earned affirmation and cheers from CMFR’s Philippine Journalism Reports for going beyond the “he-said, she-said” narrative in current affairs.
In fact, Interaksyon could no longer keep count of the number of times that coverage it introduced has gained traction, inspired further reporting from larger newsrooms and earned viral status.
Interaksyon even captures the hearts of audiences from overseas as it touches on significant issues the mainstream media overlook.
It is our hope that the public gets more engaged with the news with its approach of responsive and insightful journalism about underreported but no less interesting stories.
