WATCH: Mayor Isko Moreno reveals plans for Manila after meeting Martha Stewart
MANILA, Philippines — American lifestyle and media magnate Martha Stewart recently shared her struggles and success secrets as “America’s first self-made female billionaire” in a leadership forum organized by ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).
Before the forum, Mayor Isko Moreno welcomed Stewart in Manila last Monday and shared an all-Filipino lunch with her together with Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, chef Margarita Fores and designer Kenneth Cobonpue at the National Museum of Natural History.
In an interview with the press after the forum, Moreno shared that his meeting with Stewart has inspired him to redecorate Manila.
First, he said, he plans to have more trees planted all over the city to “make it more vibrant and alive.”
He also plans to encourage the use of more Filipino accents in Manila, like capiz and rattan, which are sold in Quiapo and Malate.
During the forum, Stewart shared that she loved the textiles, rattan work, weaves, pearls and metalwork she saw while window-shopping in an all-Filipino department store.
Stewart, through her own Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. company, is behind best-selling books such as Martha Stewart’s Homemaking Handbook and Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook, which spawned into a magazine and TV show called Martha Stewart Living. — Video by Deni Rose M.
