MARIKINA, Philippines — Hundreds of people joined in the annual Tour de Takong held in Shoe Avenue, Marikina City last December 1.
Part of the celebration of the Sapatos Festival in Marikina, which is known as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines, the event is a running competition wherein participants race while wearing stilettos with three-to-six-inch heels.
Luisa Raterta finished first at the female category, followed by Jocyelyn Iliran and Beverly Paralle. At the male category, Joevimark Villafuerte bagged the gold medal, while John Gabriel Conanan and Lowerman Estrella finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
According to Marikina’s website, the event aimed to showcase the strength and beauty of Marikina-made stiletto shoes.
The 600-meter dash also featured fabulous outfits from participants, which included firefighters, teachers, policemen, members of the LGBTQ, and other people from different walks of life.
As a member of the Marikina Shoemasters basketball team in Maharalika Pilipinas Basketball League, Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson also graced the event but did not participate in the run.
