Jose Rizal manga to be released in June

Writer Takahiro Matsui has been tapped by TORICO to write the Jose Rizal manga, which also features art by Ryo Konno. Davao-based Japanese translation company Creative Connections and Commons is also involved in the project.

MANILA, Philippines — A Jose Rizal manga is coming and you can read it for free.

According to TORICO, the company that initiated the project, the 100-page manga aims to tell the story of the Philippines’ national hero using the popular style of Japanese comic books.

Writer Takahiro Matsui has been tapped by TORICO to write the Jose Rizal manga, which also features art by Ryo Konno. Davao-based Japanese translation company Creative Connections and Commons is also involved in the project.

The Jose Rizal manga will have ten parts divided in three chapters. It will be released weekly for free starting June 19, Rizal’s birth anniversary.

It will be available in Japanese and English. Meanwhile, there are plans to also publish it in Filipino.

Once released, people can read the Jose Rizal manga at manga.club (English and Japanese) and sukima.me (Japanese). — with a report from The STAR/Janvic Mateo
