Situated in Quezon City’s own little “Williamsburg,” Van Gogh is Bipolar is a newly opened restaurant owned and operated by resident travel photographer-slash-hipster, Jetro Rafael.
The menu consists of healthy, natural and organic food that promises to balance your serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine levels. In other words, they serve food that stimulates the body to produce the “happy hormones.”
The restaurant itself is a cozy living space often surrounded by pieces of artwork from the proprietor and other local Philippine artists.
A graffiti table reminiscent of the Graffiti Benches that were found at U.P. Diliman’s Palma Hall is parked under the kitchen window for people to leave their marks.
A red wall covered with messages of anger, hate, love and hope make for an interesting once over.
The restaurant operates on a “semi-self service” system. Guests write down their own orders on paper provided by the servers. These order slips are then presented to the kitchen window. After the meal is over, guests are encouraged to calculate their own bill.
Van Gogh is Bipolar is a must-try among Manila’s premiere organic restaurants. Only a few months old, it has drawn a following among celebrities, food lovers and people who enjoy delicious, happy-making, farm-fresh meals.
