Continuing where spring/summer left off, Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, took the quintessential Parisienne as his muse and dressed her in a flamboyant homage to the ‘80s couture and its memorable muses.
Describing his vision, Jacobs said he wanted to “epitomize the joy of being a woman, the joy of getting dressed, and the rebelliousness of saying, ‘I don’t care what’s going on, I’m just going to have a good time.’”
For fall/winter 2009-2010, it’s all about shapes and textures with luxurious fabrics that are twisted, pleated, frilled and flounced.
Skirts are short and puffy, while suits with pencil skirts are embellished in layers of ruching and ruffles.
Shoes were dangerously high in be-ribboned pumps up to thigh-high boots.
Colors ran from somber black and grey, to flesh and camel, with flashes of shocking pink and electric blue peeping from within.
Quirky fashion jewelry added a playful twist, in the form of chunky necklaces painted in matte lacquer to resemble brightly colored paper chains.
Fingerless gloves were another key accessory, as were the memorable bunny-ear headbands that punctuated the collection.
For all the bag hags out there, expect only the most luxurious, gilded handbags this September at Louis Vuitton stores.
Iconic shapes like the Speedy, Alma and Pochette Accessories are revisited in glamorous gold-sequined Monogram canvas, while a second line features the Noé and Alma bags in lush purple, blue or black Monogram embossed calfskin. Inside, a second inner bag is revealed in shimmering fabric inspired by Louis Vuitton’s classic Epi leather.
Echoing the collection’s hourglass silhouettes are the soft Monogram quilted satin clutches are cinched with a gold studded belt. And completing the collection are new scarves, sunglasses, bangles, agendas, and more.
