LV springs into spring
To introduce Louis Vuitton’s new Multicolor Spring Palette, contemporary artist Takashi Murakami transformed Tokyo’s Omotesando store into a virtual Murakami Land, with colorful Louis Vuitton trunks, floral wallpaper, art installations, and plush toys.
Murakami became well known in the fashion world when Louis Vuitton’s artistic director Marc Jacobs tapped him in what turned out to be the most successful collaboration between an artist and the giant luxury brand. That was in 2003.
Last week, Louis Vuitton celebrated six years of Multicolor success, with a party graced by Murakami himself, performances by the all-girl idol group AKB48, and their member Erena Ono dressed as Aya, one of Murakami’s animated characters.
To commemorate the launch, Murakami premiered his short digital animation called “Superflat First Love” about Aya and her encounter with Gaston Louis Vuitton at the store. The short can be viewed on YouTube as well as the Louis Vuitton website until the end of May.
This month the Insolite Wallet collection becomes available in Louis Vuitton stores featuring a multicolor monogram on white canvas, doubled with a colorful grained calf-leather lining in delicious colors of grape, lemon, lychee, fig, pistachio or anise.
The wallet features two zipped pockets for coins and bills, two flat compartments for bills or papers, and opens up to — get this — 12 card slots.
