High brow, low brow

When I think about eyebrows, a few celebrities come to mind: Brooke Shields, Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford, Frida Kahlo, Madonna, Marcia Cross, Kris Aquino, Gary Estrada.

Eyebrows are such an important part of the face. They contribute to one’s facial expression or first impression.

Brooke Shields was known for her bushy virgin eyebrows.

In the ‘90s, when Madonna shaved her eyebrows like Jean Harlow, we followed suit and ended up looking older.

It was said that after Joan Crawford shaved her eyebrows for a role, they never grew back and she just painted them on. Kris Aquino’s trademark “number-seven” eyebrows are supposedly feng shui-ed, if we are to believe the grapevine.

Whenever I watch Desperate Housewives, I can’t help but think that if Marcia Cross had thicker eyebrows, she might look less “fierce.”

Frida Kahlo had the monobrow as did Gary Estrada.

In Japan, lots of men have their eyebrows groomed professionally. I brought this up while interviewing Queer Eye’s grooming guru Kyan Douglas a few years back. He said men have to take care of their eyebrows and clean them up on top and underneath — but they still have to be bushy and masculine.

Lash Curl Up (P2,200) will make you look like you were born with naturally curled eyelashes, while Lash in Bloom (P3,800) will extend your lashes using the highest quality lash follicles for that naturally lush look.

Brow Resurrection will set you back P25,000 for lengthening and P35,000 for full brows — and those are not typos. Have the eyebrows you never you had through a very advanced and meticulous eyebrow tattoo that’s “so lifelike it looks like real strands of hair,” says Tab.
