MANILA, Philippines — A study conducted by storage company BOXIE24 found out that the Philippines ranks as among the top 10 countries with the most hoarders and is the highest-placed Asian nation in the list.

The company's research team analyzed nearly 600 unique keywords using Google Keyword planner to come up with the results, using terms such as "how to stop hoarding," "break the habit of hoarding," and "best decluttering methods."

The Philippines ranked No. 7 with a hoarding-related Google search volume of 17.91 for every 100,000 residents, a number that is more than 700% higher than the global average.

The Philippines finished just ahead of Italy and even topped Kenya and South Korea (the only other Asian country in the top 10), which both had search volumes 600% and 400% more than the global average, respectively.

BOXIE24's founder Gerrit Jan Reinders noted in a statement the Philippines' ranking highlighted a growing awareness of hoarding behaviors in Southeast Asia.

"This could be attributed to various factors, including changing consumer habits, increasing urbanization, and smaller living spaces in major cities like Manila," Reinders added.

Topping the entire list was the United Kingdom with a whopping hoarding-related Google search volume of 104.42 for every 100,000 residents, over 4700% higher than the global average and 3000% clear of second-placed United States.

South Africa, Spain, and Germany completed the top 5, with France sandwiched between them and the Philippines.

"Given these findings, it's clear that many of us could benefit from re-assessing our relationship with our possessions. I'd encourage everyone to regularly evaluate what they own and why they're keeping it. Consider adopting a 'one in, one out' policy to maintain balance in your living space," said Reinders.

He also suggested the 90/90 rule for those struggling with clutter, which is letting go of items that haven't been used in the the last 90 days and don't intend to be used in the next 90.

"Remember, the goal isn't to deprive yourself but to create a living environment that enhances your well-being," Reinders ended. "Whether you choose to donate, sell, or find creative storage solutions, the key is to make conscious decisions about what truly adds value to your life."
