When a cowboy weds a stewardess: Neil Basubas and Diana Liao
The newlyweds Neil and Diana Basubas

The love story began when Diana Marie Liao was working as a flight attendant and Neil Basubas happened to be  one of the passengers. Call it love at first sight but that encounter changed their lives forever.

Courtship followed until a few years later when Neil, a cowboy-at-heart, planned his proposal by asking his friends to ride along with him on horseback bearing banners that read “Will you marry me?”

Neil then galloped ahead toward Diana on a beautiful horse while dressed in comfortable cowboy attire, complete with  cowboy hat, boots, belt buckle, western shirt and jeans. Diana was simply overwhelmed with joy, knowing well it took a lot of courage for Neil to express his love and commitment in front of his friends.  The celebration continued with a fun dinner among their cowboy and cowgirl friends.

They were wed at the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod with Fr. Benjie Herrera officiating.  Diana walked down the aisle in a fabulous gown by Cebuano prince of fashion Philipp Tampus and was met at the altar by the groom, who was debonair in an intricately embroidered barong tagalog by much sought-after  Davao designer Edgar Buyan.

Ten sets of principal sponsors, mainly relatives and long-standing friends of the couple, stood as witnesses. Among them were Neil’s uncle Romualdo Basubas and Dianas’s aunt Leticia Chua. Mary Maggie Mae Cruz was matron of honor while Neil’s brother Niko and good friend Javi Sala were best men.
