What’s the biggest hassle about going to the movies? For us, it’s lining up for tickets. (Tick-tock, tick-tock… Hey, we’re missing the trailers!)
Well, Resorts World Manila just figured out how to streamline that process with its new RWM Mobile Companion app. Imagine, instead of queuing to purchase tickets, you simply flash a QR code on your cellphone — and you’re in our seat.
The app not only lets you purchase tickets and select seats with a few taps online, it lets you download a virtual movie pass that the usher at your favorite Megaworld Lifestyle Mall cinema can easily scan, allowing you to slip inside that much easier.
The mobile app was launched at Newport Cinemas, which just happens to have the newest, snazziest Ultra Cinema 1 seats in town. We got a taste of the latest upgrades while watching the new Dwayne Johnson thriller Rampage, where semi-enclosed, fully reclining seats, a personal LED lamp, USB charging station and “personal butler” button (to keep the popcorn and drinks coming) made the cinema experience every bit as special as flying Business Class.
Team spirit: Megaworld Lifestyle Mall marketing officer Ralph Torres; Megaworld Commercial Division regional head Michael Vivo; Megaworld Lifestyle Mall group head for Lifestyle Entertainment Group Brix Valdenarro; Resorts World Manila director for Digital Channels Jay Padua; and director for Integrated Marketing Gerald
In an event called “Cinema Convergence,” we saw how the RWM Mobile Companion lets you get more out of your night out: it’s like a personal “pocket concierge” that offers the latest RWM promos, dining spots, show times, shuttle service schedules and Newport Mall merchant info.
RWM director for Digital Channels Jay Padua gave us the skinny: “Aside from the convenience of early reservations and cashless payments, moviegoers no longer have to line up at the box office when they watch at Newport Cinemas — all they need to do is pay, scan and watch.” He explained further: “It’s really a seamless experience: you book your ticket, receive confirmation via SMS with your mobile ticket, and head to your seat.”
He also touted the app’s new features: with a tap of your finger, you can check out the latest promotions and exclusive movie merchandise — like the collectible Avengers: Infinity Wars drink cups with action figurines, proudly shown off by the nimble San Beda Dance Theater troupe and Megaworld Lifestyle and Resorts World honchos onstage. (It’s the first of many movie tie-ups for the Megaworld Lifestyle Mall and Entertainment Group.)
There’s also an event calendar on the app listing which bands are playing at Resorts World bars, what’s showing at Newport Performing Arts Theater and Cinemas, and even a “Wayfinder” feature to help guide you through the mall to whatever shop, restaurant or bar you’re looking for. The easy-to-use app is free to download on the AppStore and GooglePlay.
Purchase cinema tickets using the RWM Mobile Companion App. With just a few taps, receive a booking confirmation and QR code that serves as their virtual ticket allowing them to proceed straight to the cinema entrance where it will simply be scanned by an usher.
Guests can use the app to purchase Newport Cinema tickets through the RWM website or through blockbusterseats.com, which also offers online booking for other Megaworld Lifestyle Mall cinemas such as Uptown Cinemas, Lucky Chinatown Cinemas, Venice Cineplex, Southwoods Cinemas and Eastwood Cinemas.
We really enjoy the Ultra Cinema 1 seats, which offer plenty of elbowroom, a smooth, reclining view of the screen — and did we mention a USB outlet to charge your phones and a personal butler?? The only thing missing is a remote control to pause the movie while you take a bathroom break. But you can’t have everything in life, after all.
