SieMatic’s Urban collection captures the essence of city living while celebrating nature and the outdoors.

Minimalism is probably one of the most influential styles today, especially in the kitchen. As it implies, minimalism is certainly not a lavish style, but neither is it an absence of design either.

The challenge is to avoid wanting to adorn everything with little unnecessary details — the beauty is the design itself.

The SieMatic 29 takes an award-winning fresh look at traditional kitchen sideboards, with its high-level of functionality and versatility. Its freestanding “solitaire” design adds character to the individual units that make up the eclectic, yet cohesive kitchen style of SieMatic Urban’s philosophy of self-expression in the kitchen.

“Probably the most important factor is to keep your kitchen clutter free,” noted Volker Betsch, managing director, SieMatic Far East office. “The trend has been around for years. Nothing much has changed really. In fact, when you visit a kitchen store, you’ll see exactly the same pieces over and over again.”

While minimalism aims to keep things elegant and simple, it somehow strips your dwelling space of emotions.

“City dwellers soon realized they want to bring ‘life’ back into their homes — not just cold, ‘controlled’ areas  around them,” said Volker. “And I guess that’s the essence of city living.”

Inspired by life in the cities, SieMatic recently launched its Urban style collection, a lifestyle kitchen which, Volker believes, will soon replace the minimalist trend.

The city provides a realm of possibility where anyone can find their own niche. SieMatic’s Urban range is perfect for the city dweller, whether home is a loft, an old apartment, a duplex or a penthouse. Wherever you are in the world, life in the city is a life of constant motion and contrast.

“The philosophy behind it is to remove boundaries between spaces, and between the outside and inside. It is for those who enjoy mixing different styles with a creatively fresh perspective on functionality and flexibility,” he added.

The theme’s signature piece and highlight is the SieMatic 29 kitchen sideboard, developed in collaboration with the Berlin-based Kinzo design studio. This freestanding unit is a tribute to the history of the company.

“It is a homage to a traditional piece of furniture — the kitchen buffet — which gave SieMatic its first success after its founding in 1929,” explained Volker.

SieMatic was founded in 1929, and the kitchen buffet is its pioneering product.

“It’s actually the first kitchen we produced in 1929. Hence, the name,” added Volker.

SieMatic 29 has earned a prestigious German Design Award by the German Design Council, one of the most well-respected design competitions in the world.”

“Panels of experts from the German Design Council nominate only those products that ‘demonstrably set themselves apart from their competitors.’ And only one company in the country gets it every year,” noted Volker.

The striking design, with its sloped side panels, casts a distinctive silhouette. The black matte finish on the metal feet is reflected in the unit’s fittings such as the railing and power outlets. The design versatility goes into niches with versatile colors and materials that can individually accommodate kitchen elements such as cook tops and sinks.

The SieMatic 29 can also be impeccably rounded out by matched or coordinated tall cabinet ensembles, in which an oven, a burner, even a refrigerator can be installed. It’s definitely fresh, flexible and functional.

A Lifestyle-inspired collection

SieMatic’s Urban collection captures the essence of city living while celebrating nature and the outdoors.

“Urban is a kitchen that gives you flexibility, because it consists of free-standing furniture pieces. Meaning, your kitchen isn’t fixed to the wall. You can reorganize your kitchen often — depending on your mood or the season,” enthused Volker.

It also brings nature into your home.

“The herb garden is part of a theme of open design in the Urban Kitchen Collection,” noted Volker.

Homeowners may opt to include an herb garden in their Urban kitchen, a part of a theme of open design in the said collection. It inspires organic gardening enthusiasts to invite nature into their kitchen, while delivering an open look.

The Urban collection also boasts the Tall Cabinet Ensembles, numerous cabinet combos that come in various widths, with closed doors and open shelves. It can be equipped with ovens and dishwashers, provide a perfect functional addition to urban planning with the SieMatic 29. The characteristic legs also make it feel like a free-standing furniture element.

“The philosophy behind the Urban collection is to remove boundaries between spaces, and the outside and the inside. It is for those who enjoy mixing different styles with a creative fresh perspective on functionality and flexibility,” added Volker.
