A Marian procession
The grand Marian procession is a revival of the century-old tradition which existed in Intramuros prior to World War II. Dr. Jimmy Laya was the one who encouraged the private individuals who participated in the above-mentioned event to form themselves into a confraternity to ensure a continuity of this revised tradition. Thus, Cofradia de la Immaculada Concepcion was born through its founding chairman Imelda Cojuangco, vice-chairman Congresswoman Carmencita O. Reyes, and its first-ever president, the late Supreme Court Justice Antonio Barredo. For its 36th year, almost 95 lighted and decorated carrozas bearing the different titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary participated in the event organized by the Cofradia de la Immaculada Concepcion. The hermanos mayor Oscar Violago and his son AJ also sponsored the annual First Holy Communion of 500 elementary public schoolchildren at the Manila Cathedral.
Clothing brand treats street kids
OshKosh B’gosh, an international brand of children’s playwear, casual and outerwear distributed locally by Cinderella, recently celebrated its 28th anniversary with the people who matter most — B’gosh babies, kids and the kids-at-heart — including children from the Makabata School Foundation Inc. OshKosh marketing director Janet Coronel led a rainbow-themed party for the guests that featured a fun fashion show, magic show, bubble show, and a kid-friendly hair salon, among many other fun-filled activities. A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Makabata School Foundation Inc., a non-profit foundation that aims to provide a formal and non-formal education for street children and out-of-school youth.
