A celebration of everything Brazil

Brazil is a cultural melting pot that has cultivated a very vibrant and lively street culture. It is home to the celebrated Carnaval, the biggest festive street party, and the spirited samba dance. Most recently, it was the venue of the World Cup 2014.

To quote Vogue, “Brazilians have the ability to organize a party and make it the most exciting night you’ve ever had.” True to form, Havaianas from Brazil, the original and best flip-flops in the world, replicated this ambience at the latest “Make Your Own Havainas” (MYOH) affair held at the Activity Center of the Ayala Center Cebu.

Now in its ninth year, the event was a celebration of everything Brazil, expressive, adventurous, and vivacious. An energetic beat filled the air, setting the celebratory mood courtesy of DJ Elmer Dado and Gruppo Tribale. Several ladies gamely donned fruit headdresses similar to samba singer Carmen Miranda’s, which was this year’s special theme.

Warmly welcoming guests were Aimil Sarmiento and Leanne Florendo, managing directors of A.L. Amizade Marketing Inc., the exclusive sub-distributors of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas. “MYOH brings to life function, fashion and fun — three things our brand always stands for.”

The thrill in this full-customization occasion came with the ability to mix and match everything from the soles and the straps, to color combinations inspired by street art and the unique limited-edition pins, which for this year all showcased Brazil from the sounds to the wildlife, to flavors and beaches — all representing summer fun. The classic geometric and crystal pins were likewise included.

To give some local color, a special heart-shaped Cebu pin designed by renowned Cebuano furniture designer Vito Selma was likewise made available. Like most artists from the island, Selma is a unique example of a true Havaianatico, who loves and lives life in a cool and carefree fashion.

Inspired by a 200-year-old tradition from Brazil, this year’s commemorative pair features colorful bonfim wish ribbons that are worn for good luck, joy and excitement, euphoria and bliss — true to the Havaianas “always summer” spirit.

An instant luxury, every pair of Havaianas is still lovingly designed and crafted in Brazil since 1962. It embodies the energy and passion of one of the most exciting countries in the world, keeping feet happy for over 50 years.
