Defying the odds in Bohol

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

The captivating Panglao Island in Bohol once again saw witness to this year’s most exciting sporting event “Defy 123 Triathlon.”

Hosted by five-star hotel The Bellevue Resort, owned and managed by The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts (BH&R), over 200 local and international triathletes participated in the challenging race composed of a one-kilometer swim at the  beachfront of The Bellevue Resort, a 110-kilometer bike around the towns of Panglao, Baclayon, Dauis and Tagbilaran, and a 12-kilometer run around the beautiful Doljo Point.

Emerging as winners were Michael James Murphy (overall champion-Male Division), Monica Torres (overall champion-female division) and Fitness First (team competition). The event capped off with an awarding ceremony held at The Bellevue Resort’s picturesque beachfront attended by the athletes and the hardworking team behind the successful tournament led by race director coach Rene “Guy” Concepcion along with organization committee members Jerry Santos, Teddy Tong and Anthony Kierulf. Meanwhile, Bikes for the Philippines, an organization that aims to provide deserving individuals with bicycles in order to improve their economic status, was selected as the sole beneficiary for the 2014 edition of “Defy 123 Triathlon.” Defy 123 was sponsored by Century Tuna, AXN, Ceepo, Speedo, Beer Below Zero, Gatorade and Crocs among others. The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts team led by chairman Johnny Chan, managing director Patrick Chan, marketing and communications corporate director Ryan Chan and The Bellevue Resort managing director Dustin Chan did a great job at staging this event.
