Metrobank Art & Design Excellence competion celebrates Filipino pride

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Marking its 30th year, the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) Competition celebrates Filipino pride and ingenuity through an iconic civic art structure and world-class cultural hub. This year, MADE strengthens its position as a premier design competition by collaborating with Federal Land, Inc. (FLI), a member of the Metrobank Group of Companies. FLI will provide the project site of the two conceptual design competitions that will showcase the works of young Filipino architects and interior designers.

The Metrobank Foundation and the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) open the competition to a team of two to four registered Filipino architects aged 25 to 50 years old. The competition aims to cultivate deeper cultural appreciation through a civic art structure that will embody Philippine identity and culture. The challenge is to design a Manila Arts + Cultural Center that will house a hall for temporary and permanent exhibitions, which include the winning artworks of the past winners of the MADE Competition.

The center is situated in the heart of the master-planned development by Federal Land called Veritown Fort, a mixed-use township development with 12 residential, office and hotel towers with premier dining, upscale retail spaces and boutiques. This conceptual art structure will rise on a triangular-shaped lot with a total area of 1,423 sq.m in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Interior design competion

In partnership with the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID), the Competition challenges 25-to 45-year old interior designers to design the interiors of the 61st floor of the proposed Metrobank Financial Center. The space will primarily serve as an observation deck gallery that is envisioned to be a tourist destination because of the panoramic view from the highest man-made elevation.

The structure will house the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which when completed will be the tallest free-standing building in the country. It will be located in the most progressive Central Business District of Metro Manila, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, developed by Federal Land and ORIX Corporation of Japan.

Some of the past winners in the design competitions are architects Michael Peña, Angelo Mañosa, Oscar Peñasales, IDr. Adrian del Monte, IDr. Childy Elamparo and Arch. Jonathan Dangue. This  year, as the competition poses bigger design challenges, it now takes pride to promote cultural tourism showcasing world-class spaces and structures that will define Philippine architecture and design both in the local and international arena.

One group of architects and one interior designer will receive P300,000 in cash and a trophy by Noell EL Farol.

Interested participants may download the competition entry forms and technical documents at http://www.mbfoundation.org.ph/arts-design-interior-design.html. Entries should be submitted on or before June 30 at the Metrobank Foundation Office, UAP/PIID Headquarters or any Metrobank Branch nationwide.
