A wickedly smashing success
I recently attended the premiere presentation of one of the world’s well-loved Broadway hits — Wicked. Taking the country by storm, this Wicked-ly successful musical’s enchanting and irresistible charm has certainly captivated yours truly and those lucky enough to be present that evening. I expected the best and I got more than the best as I’ve never seen such production value and precision. Along with prominent personalities from the diplomatic, government, business and social circles including Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga, Smart EVP and head of wireless consumer business Charles Lim, Smart Infinity business group department head Julie Carceller, Lunchbox Theatrical Productions CEO James Cundall, TicketWorld president Robert Sewell, Rustan’s Commercial Corp. president Nedy Tantoco and Metrobank Foundation president Chito Sobrepeña, we all trooped to the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines to watch the gala premiere of the Broadway phenomenon. Everyone was truly mesmerized with the stellar performances of the talented cast led by Jemma Rix and Suzie Mathers, who play the lead characters Elphaba and Glinda respectively, as well as the iconic and exquisitely marvelous sets that transported the audience to the magical and spellbinding world of Oz. Besides the astounding set designs and magnificent music, the magic of Wicked also lies in how relatable the story is for the viewers – that in our lives, we’ve experienced how it feels to be popular or to be an outcast.
Being rather a senior citizen, I’ve seen over 300 different plays, musicals and dramas, and Wicked has definitely earned a spot in the list of my favorite musicals of all time. I bow with great respect and with gratitude to the producers especially to the fantastic Concertus team led by executive producer Bambi Rivera-Verzo and the hardworking 105.9 Radio High team led by president Francis Lumen, that my friends and I had the chance to see this Broadway blockbuster.
To all my readers, I advise you to see Wicked before it ends its run and I guarantee that you’ll have a Wickedly mind-boggling and Wickedly entertaining experience of a lifetime.
