Peugeot opens in Cebu

- Honey Jarque Loop - The Philippine Star

The Peugeot family of France began their business over 200 years ago manufacturing coffee, pepper and salt grinders. Over the course of many years, the business produced and designed metal goods, machine tools, umbrellas, irons, sewing machines and kitchen gadgets and by 1885 bicycles, too. Peugeot’s breakthrough to the car industry was bridged by its business of producing bicycles, which turned it into one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in France.

Peugeot created the eye-catching, iconic “lion” emblem. It has a dual meaning since a lion is depicted on the coat of arms of a French region and symbolizes the qualities of steel saws, which have strong teeth and flexible blades for rapid sawing.

Concentrating on car manufacturing in 1948, Peugeot slowly began to reassert itself as an automotive brand with Peugeot 203. Seeing its growth expanding rapidly, they collaborated with other manufacturers and began selling cars in the United States, other parts of Europe and in Asia.

Peugeot’s entry in the Philippines is made possible by Eurobrands Distributors (EDI), the exclusive importer of Peugeot and is the newest addition to the prestigious business entities that comprise the Columbian Group of Companies.

After opening Peugeot in La Piñas, Cagayan and Quirino earlier this year, EDI formally opened its doors in Mandaue City, Cebu. Like all the previous dealerships before it, Peugeot Cebu aims to provide the full Peugeot ownership experience to its customers while ascribing fully to its international standards. No less than Peugeot’s sales director for Asia operations, Jean Yves Dossal, was on hand to formally open the dealership. The EDI management team tasked to launch in Cebu meanwhile was headed by EDI president Felix Mabilog Jr.

Peugeot’s distinct kind of luxury, in tandem with it’s high level fuel efficiency, provides much of the challenge to the high-powered executive team assembled by the Columbian group to handle the European brand. The team’s wide-ranging experience and expertise  cover the entire swathe of automotive manufacturing, marketing, advertising, and sales and distribution, will, no doubt, ensure that Peugeot eventually becomes a top-of-mind brand in the country.

Peugeot’s opening in the Philippines highlights the Columbian group’s firm commitment to provide the Philippine market with cars that have only the best fuel savings and environment-friendly technologies. As the world’s largest producer of diesel engines, Peugeot has perfected diesel technology to the extent of preserving and maintaining its level of efficiency even as it minimizes harmful effects.
