HSBC appoints first Filipino CEO
The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations. It has 16-branch networks in Manila, Cebu and Davao.
HSBC Cebu hosted an intimate cocktail reception recently at Tavolata, a popular Italian trattoria to introduce Jose Arnulfo “Wick†Veloso, the first Filipino CEO appointed by HSBC in its over 137 years of operation in the Philippines.
On hand to welcome partners, customers and guests were SVP and branch head Debbie Dy Realiza, SVP and head retail banking and wealth management Gigi Pio de Roda, and SVP and head of commercial banking Mimi Concha.
Veloso assured everyone of his commitment to continuously recognize and understand how HSBC can help achieve its financial aspirations.
Veloso has 26 years of capital markets experience of which 18 years were spent with HSBC. He first joined in late 1994 as head of interest rate trading in the Philippines, before transferring to the group’s Asian headquarters in Hong Kong to take on dual roles, first as head of Asian local currency debt trading, then with head credit derivatives for Asia Pacific added concurrently.
The new, driven and motivated CEO, with a degree in marketing management from De La Salle University in the Philippines, is actively involved in a number of industry associations that promote capital market development in our country. He is currently vice chairman of the open market committee of the Bankers Association of the Philippines and was a past president of the Money Market Association of the Philippines. He also currently sits on the market governance board of the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corp.
