A toast to Bibendum Wines
Lamenting the lack of premium and good, mid-priced wines in Cebu, Hans Eulehoefer and good friend Mikel Perdices, while enjoying a bottle of wine, hatched a great idea. Why not open a retail store that would offer an extensive selection of wines for any occasion? Thus, Bibendum Wines Philippines was born.
What sets Bibendum Wines apart is the amount of information they provide to their clients on their wines. Customers are able to make informed purchase decisions through Bibendums’ well organized and carefully thought-out website, which categorizes their wines not only by region and price but also by rating points. Each wine also includes a comprehensive description so you can do your own research before placing an order.
Another feature is their enomatic wine dispenser at the store, which allows you to taste the wines they have on offer for a minimal fee, and thus, eliminate much of the guesswork that comes with buying the wine blindly. Their efficient and well-trained staff is also able to provide a wide variety of value-added services such as menu pairing and wine recommendations based on taste preference and budget.
Aside from his passion for wines, Hans has the perfect background, having graduated from Ecole Les Roches Hotel School in Switzerland. As a member of the Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Degustateurs, he participates in key wine exhibits such as Vinexpo and the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair and attends wine courses in Bordeaux.
The guiding force behind Hans is his mother, Margaret Richards Taylor, who shares his love for wines and who brings to the company a rich experience in the wine trade. She had a 10-year stint with Caldbeck MacGregor, a member of the Inchcape Group — the largest wine and spirit distributors in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
When Caldbeck was bought by United Distillers (now Diageo) MacGregor became the managing director for Asia. In 2009 she established The Harston Group with Hans and another partner. They have been representing premium wines in duty-free outlets since.
