Philippine orchids take center stage at show
MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of 67 years of conserving, propagating and growing orchids, the Philippine Orchid Society (POS) will be holding its “Annual Orchid and Garden Show†ongoing until March 11 at the Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City. The show aims to promote awareness and conservation of our local flora, which has contributed a lot to the development of new and outstanding orchids worldwide.
“The Philippines has been blessed with a high level of diversity when it comes to orchid resources. Of the 1,000 or so orchid species known, about 90 percent is purely endemic to our country. Filipinos should know more about these orchids as these are part of our heritage,†says Vangie Go, president of the POS. “Everything that is part of our heritage is part of our identity and thus should be nurtured and protected.â€
Participating in this show are the country’s top orchid collectors and hobbyists who will be setting up exquisitely landscaped exhibits featuring their orchid collection and other rare and unusual plants. Everyone is invited to also attend the daily free lectures and the plant bazaar that will be set up on site.
