MANILA, Philippines - Uli Schmetzer’s latest book on the Chinese conquest of Southeast Asia will be launched at Solidaridad Bookshop on Padre Faura today at 6 p.m.
The Chinese Juggernaut will be presented by its author, Uli Schmetzer. This is the latest book by a veteran foreign correspondent. It is an in-depth reportage on history and politics of the major Southeast Asia countries and the impact of the Chinese diaspora in these countries.
Uli Schmetzer has reported on major global events over the last 40 years from Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
In this book, he traces the manner by which the Chinese achieved economic dominance although they do not have the political power that goes with wealth.
His book is spiced with behind the scene anecdotes and important insights on the developments in China itself.
For 10 years Schmetzer reported for Reuters and for 25 years for the Chicago Tribune. He is now retired and is a full-time book author. He lives part of the year in Venice, Italy, Torquay, Australia and off Palawan in the Philippines.
