MANILA, Philippines - Uratex and Alabang Elementary School (AES) in Muntinlupa recently marked the start of construction of the AES clinic in groundbreaking ceremonies at the AES grounds. The event was led by school officials and top executives of Uratex, and witnessed by teachers, pupils, parents and other guests.
Uratex not only lives up to its reputation as the largest manufacturer of commercial and automotive polyurethane foam products in the country, but also as a good corporate citizen who takes its commitment to help uplift the country’s educational system seriously and wholeheartedly. Its academic-oriented initiatives include scholarship grants, alliances with non-government organizations like the AGAPP Foundation, sponsorship of the Mind Museum in Taguig, as well as extending support to public schools nationwide.
“Our school is indeed very lucky to be chosen as the recipient of one of the biggest projects of Uratex. This new clinic will be of big help for the more than 6,000 pupils and 210 employees –– teaching and non teaching — as well as parents and the community when there are medical missions, who will surely benefit from the services this clinic will offer,” AES principal Dr. Emilia Alvarez said in her welcome remarks.
The donated one-storey clinic forms part of Uratex Philippines’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) program to help the surrounding communities where its 11 manufacturing facilities operate. With the owners’ belief on the pivotal role of education in shaping the growth of the nation and transforming its peoples’ lives, much of the company’s CSR activities are focused on extending assistance to academic institutions which need it most.
“Uratex believes in the value of education. In fact, majority of our CSR funds go to education because we believe that students like you are the future of our country,” Medina pointed out in her speech. “Even though this is just a small amount compared to the actual needs of our public school system, we are happy to be part of Alabang Elementary School. We thank you for the opportunity to be of help because it gives more meaning and value to what we do.”
“Since we make monoblock furniture, we will add monoblock chairs and tables. We will also give four beds and an airconditioner to make the clinic more comfortable and very convenient to the students and teachers of AES,” said Uratex Phils. corporate dervices division head Teody Manlubatan.
The new fully equipped clinic will have a 63-sqm. floor area. The school will reconvert the existing clinic to a new classroom for kindergarten students.
